Corten steel products are supplied in their natural, grey metallic colour. Once the product is placed outdoors, the rusting process begins within a few weeks to months. This gives the steel its characteristic orange/brown colour. The layer of rust slows down further oxidation, thereby protecting the underlying material. The total rusting process takes 1 to 2 years, depending on weather influences such as rain, humidity, and temperature fluctuations.
